I've been watching 4 doe in my yard, just a few yards from my coffee cup.  Mom and 3 9 month olds.  When I was a kid, about 70 years ago, deer almost exclusively ate tree buds, the 1 inch of new growth...never saw them eat short grass.  These deer are eating grass that is just 1" tall.  So deer seem to evolve in their diet.

Also, in the old days, we always thought that deer with 3 fawns had 'adopted' a stranded fawn.  That is probably not correct.

Of the adult does that were pregnant, 77% had twins, 12% had singles, 9% had triplets and 1% had quadruplets. One case (less than 1%) of quintuplets was also observed.

My deer are still here, the young  deer are each licking each others.  It is raining lightly, and I think they just want the water/moisture, it is 600 yards to a creek.

Large doe has been laying down, neck extended.  It appears exhausted, probably pregnant with triplets??  she has come back often to the exact spot she was born in 6 years ago.  lays within 1 inch of birth spot.  cool.   imprinted?
