So how many have you personally burned out. Not some old military
weapon you bought used.

I've seen black powder barrels pitted and dark. M-1 Garands with
cleaning rod wear as well as erosion from shooting but I've never done
it myself.

I am under no illusion that a new barrel will have a change in accuracy
during its lifetime but I also know it can be compensated for with
different loads or bullets.

Endeavor to persevere.

I have killed one barrel in a .223 that I used for small game. I have no idea how many rounds went down the tube but it was a lot. It would still shoot ok just not to the level of accuracy I liked. By that time the extractors were getting kind of weak so I got rid of the whole gun.

8-223/.556, 2- 7mm RM. The 556 were back in the days when I shot alot, 10k a week +. The 7's were when I was competing and as soon as any changes occurred, I changed it. Turns out it wasn't the barrels fault.

It takes a whole lot of shooting to destroy a barrel. 99% of shooters never do. One of the 556 barrels was from a then unheard of company called Noveske. It digested a few hundred thousand rounds before the accuracy was degraded to the point it was obvious. It outlasted a BCG and two firing pins as well as a few magazines with mil surplus FMJ's. It should also be noted the barrel never printed less then MOA, and required surgery to get it to work in the first place. In less then a week at the end of it's run, it went from 1.5 MOA to almost 3.That said, my son destroyed a .22lr barrel. More like the whole gun, but it was a cheap piece of crap Marlin.
...oh yeah! thats gonna hurt!

Only one barrel that I shot out. A new Rem 700 with
20 inch barrel in 308. That was my target/BG rifle
for years. Bought it new as soon as the 700 came out,
when I was 16.

I was handloading and shot most anything, especially
surplus bullets, and at P++ pressures. Mostly 125/130
grains. It was a sub MOA gun with the 125/130.

Wanted to take it to Africa for night leopard hunting,
just couldn't get her back under 3.5 inch groups.
Recrowned the muzzle and developed loads for 2 years.
rebarreled.

Only other barrel I saw shot out was a 22 RF H&R
revolver (plenty used). The league posted our scores
weekly; and that pistol went down so fast. It
happened probably within 100 rounds, from a contender
to a no count revolver.   and no one could get it to
shoot in 6" at 50 foot. lots of keyholing too.

I had an old Military Swede in 6.5x55 that had at least
one gazillion rounds fired through it before I got it. It
still wasn't shot out as far as I could tell.

I think it's safe to say I probably won't be shooting out
the barrel of my 6.5 project any time soon.
