My bear curse continues. My boy and I Hunted hard, in the Elkhorns all weekend and never seen a sign of a bear. Gobs of doe white tail , and piles of elk crap.
Monday he had a few hours to kill in the morning. He ran out to the sluice boxes towards Monarch to glass the creek.
YUP, out steps a bear, he sprints down to the creek and cuts him off and blasts him with his 7 mm
Home by ten...

Maybe you need to borrow his truck, hat, and coat, during bear season, unless it's yogi, could fool them.    Maybe bears see enough firefighter yellow, they would ignore you.

I used to hunt does on the Hutterite Colonies. I wore black and flannel. Deer never paid any mind to you walking the fences, unless you tried to be sneaky about it.

Have you thought of sitting up on chokecherry stands, along rivers? They're thick with bears right now, over here it's mostly grizzly though, black bears tend to avoid grizzlies, mainly because they tend to get eaten.

Good job by son. Tuff to wrestle a bear to truck alone. Nice hide?

The kid is shorter then me by a few inches and is 45 pounds lighter.
He handles the bear like a kids teddy bear, unbelievable.
Very nice but not BLACK.
Every bear he has shot was a color phase bear.
The bear's muzzle looks like an old dog with a lot of gray .

Old timers use to say their were two types of black bear.   Hog bearrs  and dog  bears.  sounds like he got a 'dog' beaar.
