how do badger pelts compare in value to coyote and fox? i saw a couple at a sporting good's store and they looked just as nice as any nice coyote pelt i have ever seen, albeit smaller...

Way lower. The hair is brittle, and sheds badly.  Low quality hide. I've used some for shooting bags over the years, and they tend to go bald faster than the girls in your graduating class. I did use one for the head on a fretless banjo, sans hair, a couple years ago, and it worked ok, although the sound wasn't as good as antelope hide on them.
