Fella's;

I just went to Midway's site to check on bullet availability.  I noticed that they are now selling popular brands such as Speer & Sierra in boxes of 50 instead of 100 for the .338 diameter bullets.  However, the prices didn't drop by 50%, oh no they didn't.

I then went to .308 diameter bullets, checked on box amounts & pricing, & found pretty much what I've come to expect.  No big changes.  Hornady has not jumped on this marketing bandwagon that I can see, at least not yet.

I have to wonder though if this is just the beginning of the industry shifting to Nosler's despicable practice that they, Nosler, adopted in the late 90's.  Perhaps Speer & Sierra are starting with the non-mainstream calibers & will see how that goes.  Perhaps they will introduce the new pricing structure across their lines as existing supplies sell out.  Perhaps they've been doing this for awhile now & I didn't notice because I was happy with the Hornady bullets I had been using.

But, I think I'm going to be buying a lot of bullets in the near future while prices are proper.  Then, if a whole bunch of us do the same thing, we can starve 'em into boxes of 100 bullets selling for something in the twenty to thirty dollar range.  COLA adjustments being OK, cutting the bullet count by 50% & the price by 20% is not.  'Cause just like Nosler, the bullet count will stay at 50, but the price will rise dramatically.

Look at the weight marked on a 3 pound coffee can. No where near 3 pounds.

I have always been a big fan of Sierra. If they use tactics like that I will work on loads using Hornady.

Heavier bullets have always been in packs of 50.

35 cal/375/416/458.

It is tough to get cardboard boxes that can stand up to the extra weight of a 250/300/400/500 grain bullets.

Prives may have increased also, they seem to do so every time I buy bullets!

Yup my Hornady 300 45/70's only come 50. The Barns 300 gr only come 20 to a box and cost a little more.
Remember: Four boxes keep us free ,the soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, AND the cartridge box

I bought 500 of 9mm Hornady 100 grain FMJs from Midway, thinking that they were fully "encapsulated" (jacket on bottom too).  They arrived with a lead base, making me think these ain't really Hornadys.  No way to tell from the packaging.  Anybody know?  Hornady doesn't even have that weight bullet in 9mm listed on it's website as a product.

Mule;

They may indeed be 9mm, but at 100 grains it's a pretty good bet that they're meant to be used in a .380.  In fact Hornady's product number for that bullet is #35527.  I'm not sure it's a current product though since I didn't talk with them today.
