We went fishing and shooting today.
I did not get a bite my boy got some very nice trout 3 and 4 pounders.
After we got tired of that we set up to shoot. We always have a bunch to test or sight in or proof.
6.5 Grendel We were just checking it but worked as it should.
7 mm rem mag TC dimension. The boy just changed from 30/06 to the
7 mm. Just a few shots to zero to 200 yards.
My 8, is zeroed at 230 yards, I wanted to proof it at 500. I have 200's and 220's both should be twins at 500 yards, 22 inch low.
The 7 at 500 and 165 using the 500-yard dot was an inch low but about a 6" group, good.
My 8 we determined I should use the second hash, I did.
The 200 shot right on in a 5", 5 shot, group very respectable.
The 220 should be there too. That they were but, in about a 7" group with 5 shots, HUM no Idea why that is, at 230 there both right at an inch.
We checked the speed with the speedometer and was right on the money, the 200 average 3200 and the 220 did 3100 both with a variance in single digits. Over 500 yards the 220 carry a little more energy, but not a lot.
I'm happy either way. It looks like a little more range time and I will be ready. I'm interested to see if the 220 keeps opening up as I go out.
It takes SOOOO long to go check 500-yard targets and Hard even out here to get a place we can shoot farther but I want to see what the next two hash marks bring. I should be 600, and 700 yards, I'll use a gong to test them.Ouch

Very respectable groups D.

That's definatly minute of deer and good to over 500 yards. I'd say that's really good.

I am what I am, gray and proud to take your money Thanks every one still working....Big smile

It's not that I CAN'T walk out to a 600 yard target, It's that I don't want to.

PS My bullets are still supersonic at 1000 yards

seems it is a better black bear gun, ridge to ridge?
The IQ and the life expectancy of the average American recently passed each other in opposite directions.

Hill you ever do your 8 out that far?
Just wondering what you found.
I think I have a place I can get 700 or 800 yards.
I would never choose to shoot an animal that far,
But as an oh my god in a wounded animal OR paper.
Just nice to know.

D, there is not a place within 20mi of me to even SEE 500yds, say nothing about shoot that far...LOL
I have 100 at my "home" range and can squeak 200 at the F&G Club. I have a cousin with a farm that can shoot 500, but I don't get over there often. I haven't played with my 8mag alot. I sporadically take it out and work on some of the test loads I have for it, but I haven't got too serious with it as I don't have much intention of using it on game in the near future. I have shot it enough to know, RL22, H4831 and IMR7828 work well with the 195 Hornady's and 220gr Sierra's. It is not very picky, inch groups are not hard to get with it if I can do my part. If I had an elk or moose hunt lined up out there it would be on the short list with my 300Wby to take out, not that my '06, 280 or 7mags couldn't do it, but because I wouldn't use it for anything else.
