After only 8 months and 8 days I finally got my rifle back. Actually he called yesterday but I wasn't able to go pick it up.

It's a Winchester Model 70 action with a Brux 24 inch, 1 in 8.5 twist barrel chambered in 6.5x55 Swede. With a muzzle brake threaded on. He trued the action, lapped the locking lugs and cerekoted all except the bolt handle and bottom metal. He then bedded it into a Bell and Carlson Ultra light weight Medalist stock.

I have always considered myself to be quite the bullshitter, But ocasionally it is nice to sit back and listen to a true professional......So, Carry on.

I can't wait to get it out and shoot it. I did shoot two factory rounds through it. Out the back door of the gunsmiths shop.

He also did an unexpected trigger job. I orderd a Timney trigger for it several months ago but I am thinking I probably will use it on another rifle and keep the one he worked on.

I am going to load a few rounds for it tomorrow and if it ever quits snowing I will try it out.

So far I have bought a box of 140gr Nosler accubonds. and a box of Nosler 142gr accubond LR bullets.

In the past, for my other rifles, I have always found a heavier for caliber bullet that's as accurate as I can get. Then I figure it will work for a wide range of things I hunt. That way I don't have several loads for one rifle that are for different conditions just one accurate load.

I have shot prairie dogs with 165 grain bullets out of a .308. It seems to kill them just as dead as a faster lighter bullet would.

I plan on hunting everything up to elk with this rifle. I'm thinking 140's will do well for elk.

On the other hand, I enjoy working up loads for a rifle. After an accurate load is found it's then just another rifle and I don't shoot it as much.

Sometimes I think too much.

Sounds good.  The Acccubond is Nosler's best hunting bullet.

Don't know IF/WHEN I'll be hunting elk again.  The 9.3x62 did fine, but has a rainbow trajectory; so I bought  a 7mag just for elk...worked up a 150 grain load.

You will love the Swed, the 6.5mm  mid range rifles are just great.

Except for it being a long action it's real comparable to your .260. I have seen how it performs. If it's even close I will be happy.

I just need the cold and snow to go away so I can get out and shoot it.

The swed really needs a long action.  You can seat way out to get close to the lands and still function in the action.

To get my 260 rem to seat bullets, even the 123 gr, out to the lands means a loaded shell will NOT eject.  The bolt needs to be removed to take a loaded cartridge out of the chamber.  You might have seen me do it;  I can do it fast, but still a pain.

I really don't need anything else to think about when I am hunting. I have a hard time concentrating as it is.

I did get it out and shoot it a couple of times. After only a few loads I shot a 5 shot group that measured .475 inches at 100 yards. I still haven't messed with seating depths or fine tuned the powder charge yet. I haven't shot it over a chronograph yet, but according to the book this load has a muzzle velocity of 2695 fps. I was hoping to find an accurate load that was a little faster than that so I will still try a couple more powders and bullets.

This load was with 142gr Nosler Accubond Long Range bullets and reloader 22.

Another load that wasn't as good shot a 5 shot group at 200 yards into 1.470 inches. That was with 142gr Accubond Long Range bullets and IMR 4350.

So far I'm really happy with this gun. I'm thinking I will end up with a load that will shoot good enough to hunt with.

You better be bringing that beauty to MYGAWDS...

Provided you've figured out if you're coming yet, of course...

Kingpin is coming confirmed by phone yesterday.

Very nice looking rifle there Wing.  Good color scheme too. I don't think the .475" 5 shot group is any to shabby tho.

Brux Barrels LLC 917 Development Drive Lodi, WI 53555....never heard of them but I see they are in southern WI....how did you ever find them and decide they were the ones to make your bbl?

It's looking like the chances of me making it to MYGAWDS is higher that I thought a couple of days ago. I will know for sure tomorrow.

I originally didn't plan on using a Brux barrel. The original plan was to use a Bartlein barrel. After waiting about 6 months for the barrel to get here it showed up with the wrong contour. My gunsmith has a friend of a friend that has a cousin that knows someone that knows someone that works at Brux. He could get a barrel from them that was exactly what I wanted in a couple weeks. I did a little research on Brux and found out that they have a good reputation for making good barrels.

I decided to go with it. So far I am glad I did.
