Getting ready to load about 150 rounds of .300 Savage in new virgin brass, and am wondering if any new loads have been discovered that really make that old veteran cartridge do tricks. So far I've only tried a few different 150 grain bullets and IMR4064 powder. 2600-2620 FPS was all I've attempted to squeeze out of it to date. I figure 2650 FPS is really all I need as long as the accuracy holds to 200 yards.AW

I'm suprised no one has any good "300" loads to share, new or otherwise. Could it be that conventional .300 Savage numbers and loads work so well that it can't be improved? I suppose if anything, I'm looking for a 150 grain bullet that's the perfect match for the cartridge at the 2600-2700 speeds that it normally produces. In searching my bullet stockpile it appears that I've got more than a few Speer 150 grain Mag Tips. Is this bullet a deer class bullet at the mild speeds of the .300 Savage or is it best reserved for only the heaviest game such as bear or elk? AW
