We don't have eating squirrels, around here, I use pellet rifle sighted in for about fifty feet. That lets me knock them out of top of larch. When I lived where they had eating squirrels, 50yds was about right, only head shots were acceptable.

At home we had jackrabbits, pasture behind barn was 10 acres square, less corrals of about acre or so, about 600ft square. If they stopped anywhere in pasture and sat up, they were in range, from inside barn. The next pasture over, depending on wind, you could stretch it out to 300yds, from barn, if you were good or lucky.

My 22lr is on at 25 yds,
1/2 high at 40yds,
back on at 50 yds and
1 down at 60 yds.

It's a 10/22
That trajectory is with std velocity hunting stuff.
Chronoing at about 1,200 FPS.
The scope is 1" dia, but the rings are high.
High rings help some what to smooth the trajectory.
But, past 60 yds a 22lr will drop pretty quick.
At 100 its 5.5" down.
At 200 its 3.5' down.
At 400, I don't know the exact drop;
But its on if you aim where the vert. crosshair touches the bottom.
