Is the .17 WSM dead? It is the result of a .27-caliber nail gun cartridge necked down.
Friend had one and sold it. I figured it was obsolete and couldn't be reloaded. thoughts??

It is a fun little round for sure, here we could find shells for it when 22 LR were non existent.
Dead I think so, needed more manufactures to make a gun for it. A good replacement for it is the 17 Hornet K and you can reload for it...

I haven't seen 17 wsm ammo on the shelf in quite a while. That makes me think it might be dead in the water.
I assume that like the .243 winning out over the .257 Roberts, Their isn't room for 2 similar rounds. I assume the 17 HMR won the hearts of varminters. I am very reluctant to buy any rimfire that's not proven itself to last. I would hate the thought of having a relatively new gun that I couldn't buy ammo for or load for. Is it safer to stick to centerfires? Wing master

yep, it could be like the 5mm Remington. no ammo!
The ammo cost was close to that of a 223 cheapo ammo. Might have been a loser. Savage was making some in their cheap B line up. ruger made them until they had more than they could give away.

I'm pretty sure I wouldn't buy one unless it could be rebarreled into something else.
I have a few guns I don't shoot but I don't have any I can't shoot.
